American School & University Honors the Nation’s Most Outstanding Learning Environments

NEW YORK, NY (August 20, 2009) – Penton Media’s American School & University magazine today announced the publication of its 2009 Educational Interiors Showcase, a competition feature honoring educational interior design excellence. The Showcase spotlights 90 projects, representing some of the most effective learning environments in America, profiled in the August edition of the magazine and also on the Web at www.SchoolDesigns.com.

A jury of American Institute of Architects (AIA) members and education administrators evaluated submissions from architectural firms, schools and universities across the country. Outstanding designs were chosen for publication in AS&U, a monthly educational facilities, purchasing and business administration magazine reaching 70,000 facility planners, school and university administrators and architects with this issue. This is the 19th year the competition has been held.

Featured projects include designs that take essential elements of education design and package that into an award-winning facility. The jury used the following criteria to make its selections: ability to integrate current and future technology, life-cycle cost vs. first cost, innovative use of materials, timelessness with the flexibility to update to current standards, safety/security, clarity of design concept, and that it provides for an enhanced, engaged educational mission.
